The French Accommodation in Rhodes and the French Institute of Greece present Zoë Paul’s solo exhibition ‘Requiem to Throwing Water – Memory of the Mediterranean’, organised in cooperation with the South Aegean Region as part of the 2nd Biennale of Contemporary Ceramics (BCK).
The opening will take place on Saturday 6 June 2026 at 20:00, and the exhibition will run until 25 July 2026.
The title of the exhibition, Requiem to Throwing Water – Memory of the Mediterranean, links memory to expectation. Requiem refers to the remembrance and honor of what is lost or transformed in time, while "water dropping" recalls gestures and customs of good fortune encountered in different Mediterranean traditions. Between loss and renewal, the exhibition explores the routes of people, materials and stories that shape the collective memory of the Mediterranean space.
In 2019, Zoë Paul was invited by Manufacture de Sèvres in Paris to create new ceramic works, which were presented at the Galerie de Sèvres and subsequently included in the collections of the house. As part of this collaboration, he developed the characteristic series of ceramic curtains made of thousands of handmade beads, in collaboration with the craftsmen of Manufacture de Sèvres. Like the pixels of an image, individual units acquire new meaning through their collective composition.
In June and July 2026, Zoë Paul takes this artistic experience to the French Accommodation in Rhodes, a historic place at the crossroads of Mediterranean cultures. The monumental ceramic panels "Zargana" and "Elia" are presented next to a ceramic mural inspired by the seabed and a series of bronze sculptures. At the same time, the artist invites the audience to participate in the creation of ceramic beads, transforming the handicraft process into a collective experience of memory and meeting.

The Accommodation of France in Rhodes was built by the Knights of the Order of St. John in the Middle Ages, in a place that since ancient times was an important crossroads of the Mediterranean. In this historic place, I invite the visitors of Requiem to Throwing Water – Memory of the Mediterranean to participate in a process of creating ceramic beads, through fleeting moments of encounter and exchange. Our hands leave collective imprints on the fresh clay, which is then baked and threaded, forming a monument that reflects this collective experience." Zoë Paul, Athens, April 2026
Curriculum vitae
Zoë Paul was born in 1987 in London and grew up between Kythera and Oxford. Today he lives and works between Athens and Parnassos.
Her work explores the boundaries between private and public space, as well as the relationship between artist and community. She uses materials such as thread, clay and copper, revisiting traditional techniques through modern visual arts Zoë Paul was born in 1987 in London and grew up between Kythera and approaches.
It draws on a wide range of visual traditions, from prehistoric rock painting and Byzantine iconography to the digital pixel, exploring how time and collective practices shape materials and forms.
In 2012 she completed her master's degree in Sculpture at the Royal College of Art in London. Her solo exhibitions include presentations at MO.CO. (Montpellier, 2024), Zeyrek Çinili Hamam (Istanbul, 2023), blank projects / No.9 Cork Street (London, 2022), Museum of Modern Art (New York, 2019–2021), Galerie de Sèvres (Paris, 2020), The Intermission (Piraeus, 2020), La Loge (Brussels, 2019) and Spike Island (Bristol, 2018).
